The only Aphelandra I can ever remember seening in my 68 years is Zebra Plant (Aphelandra squarrosa) They were real popular house plants back in the 1970's and lots of garden centers and nurseries had them for sale but I rarely see them anymore. I think 'Snow White' is probably a hybrid and a gorgeous one at that!

@XiaoLong, I hope you will consider uploading a few of your beautiful photos to the database!

Hi Gene.
Its tropical here. Many plants grow here all year except for those which need cool climate which only grow at certain place or mountain area.
(Actually I love spring bulbs and have try to grow tulip, lily, and narcissus. And the bulbs succesfully keep sleep forever Big Grin . Wish some day there are some varieties of them which can tolerare hot tropical climate)

The best way to tell if you have an Agleonema or a Aphelandra is to look at the central stem. Agleonemas are always producing one leaf from another in a circular motion around the central stem which, when young, the leaf petioles surround the stem and hide it until they fall off, much like any aroid will do, like dieffenbachia or even elephant ears. An Aphelandra will have a central trunk with leaves coming off of it in pairs opposite one another. The trunk will appear smooth and soft and many time colored. There will be a definite growth point at the top from with each pair of leaves develop as the trunk elongates. Ag's will produce a spathe flower while Aphelandras will produce bracts from which individual flower will develop.
