My guess = old age. Older (bottom) leaves die, a normal thing. Gene

Welcome! @Pamelalager

This is a bromeliad and the browning of lower leaves as they age is normal. Just cut them off to tidy-up the plant. The plant looks healthy.

The dead leaves will eventually become loose and you can easily pull them off leaving a clean "trunk".

True, but I want my bromeliads to be aesthetically-pleasing, @porkpal, and don't like the looks of dead leaves hanging around. Sticking tongue out

Mine don't know they are Bromeliads; they think they are just pineapples.

Hilarious! I actually have never had a pineapple growing. I think that is neat to have one. Thumbs up

You guys are funny! Rolling on the floor laughing I have a few pineapples that are in the ripening stage now. When we harvest we will plant the crowns that are cut off from the top of the fruit. Mine are growing in the ground so I don't bother with pulling off the dead leaves. If I had them in pots though, I would cut off the dead leaves so the plant looks neat and pretty.

Pineapples are Heaven on Earth. But since eating Hawaiian-grown pineapples, I won't ever be happy with the ones I get here. (unless I grill them! ) But I did get a Maui Gold from Hawaii to root. Maybe in 2 years I will be eating my Hawaiian Texas-Grown pineapple. In the meantime I will try to get back to Hawaii to eat pineapples until I get mouth sores and cool them off with Dole Pineapple Whip.

You should try them! Then plant the top! Even the grocery store ones are pretty good. Of course, they are nothing like the home grown ones.
