I checked one of the packages of FL peony seeds and found them to be slightly swollen. I pinched one open with my thumbnail and found the inside fleshy part to be white and relatively firm. They appeared to be in good condition and, if they sprout, I will have nearly 200 new plants. I put them back onto the warming spot and will leave them for 2 more months.

I checked one of the bags of 20 seeds tonight. Had one floater when I put them in water to wash them. Cut it and a normal seed with an x-acto knife to check the inside portion. Note the good seed with the white fleshy center and the floater with the darker center. Appears that most of the seeds are good and firm could possibly sprout in time. I have no idea of what I will do with them so they are free to anyone wanting to try their hand at raising fern leafs. These are from single plants with one being a species single. They grew in a mixed bed with doubles and a lithophile so the pollination may be uncertain.

I think my anomola seeds are germinating. I grasped each one and ran them over a finger nail file then put them in wet paper towel. Just had them laying around the house. lol I got some bubils (sp) from some lilies and was going to do the same (except no need to scarify) with them and decided to check the peonies. I see little white things. tiny tiny. I am so excited. Now if they just don't rot. How long if they are germinating should I wait to put them in soil. And suggestions on soil?

How long did the root take to show?

I have my seeds in potting soil, and I watch for any molds.
If molds show up then spritz with diluted hydrogen peroxide.

I am going to put them out in the garage for the winter.
These are seeds I obtained from the Canadian Peony Society.

Well, if they are indeed roots, then I would say about a month at least. I am disgusted with myself as I didn't note the date I started. I can get more and date those to see how long it takes in another try. I am taking them to Mike, the horticulturist at the botanical garden today to verify what I think is happening. I will spritz them with peroxide just to be sure not to lose them to mold. Perhaps I should put them in soil and then into the small (18") bed I planted the seeds from the US peony society. I cut the bottom out of a large pot and sunk it in the soil then planted the seeds inside so I wouldn't lose where they were planted. Those were not scarified. Thanks Caroline.

Update: I picked a ziplock bag of medium and seeds for a random check before storing them in a refrigerator until next Spring. There were a few seeds out of 20 which had the beginning of a root. Appears the seeds could be viable to plant in containers later in early Spring. I have over 200 so if anyone wants some, message me.
