I have a few daylilies that have bloomed off of one stalk and have no signs of pods, or flowers. Do i need to pull the stem, cut it off at the base, or just let it die back?

I just let mine die back. When it turns completely brown, I give it a gentle tug and pull it right out.

I'm a newbie too: I was 'infected' with the Daylily virus last year :-)

I have this rule of thumb:
Long stalks or in places where they poke my eye when gardening: cut it off at the base
Futher away in the border and not easy to reach: leave them untill Fall and they can be pulled without any trouble

Don't know if this is the best way, but I always think that gardening should be fun, not 'work'

OK, so we have two versions - leave it till it dies back ( I can see the reasoning behind this) and if it pokes you in the eye then chop that sucker out of the way.

I guess I am more prone to chop it if there is nothing left (OK, here comes my big words that I just learned today) . If only the Scape and Bloom Scar are left, prior to me chopping it down I will look for Bract's to see if a Proliferation has started, if so one might be able to produce another plant from this.

(Sounds like I know what I am doing)
