Elaine...I really like your Mymecophila. I saw several of these on Ebay and almost bought one. Then I thought about getting it through a Georgia winter. I have to bring my plants into my house in the winter here and was afraid I may not be able to provide enough light and humidity for it. Yours and Jim's both are beautiful.
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

I have a lot of catching up, Jun 3 I was sent back home finally. Just a mild stroke and have just about got finished with PT, so nearly back to 'norm', didn't have my iPad with me and I missed everyone of you. My orchids did not get spring repot but are doing good without it this year.
So glad to meet all the new posters!

I am so sorry to hear of your health problems, Bert. I am glad you are on the mend though. Maybe the move was too much on your body? Whistling

Oh my, Roberta! I was wondering why you weren't around. I am glad you are feeling better. Please take care of yourself!

Mike, regarding the Myrmecophila- I wouldn't worry about the lack of humidity when inside. To add extra light is easy, I have a bunch of these cheap clamp lights with a grow-light bulb on a timer in my front room for some of my succulents. I used to flower my Vanda David Gardner regularly like that during the Winter months before I had a greenhouse.

Oops, Mike the pretty Myrm. flowers above are Lindsey's not mine. But I do have one as well. I think your biggest problem with having to bring it indoors is that they also get pretty large, with extremely long bloom spikes so after a few years of your wonderful care, you'd need a bigger house!

I went on a garden tour early this morning and managed to get a picture of this bamboo orchid minutes before the outer bands of Colin hit. By the time I left the garden it was pouring. This one was in a large container and I was told it is hardy here. Hmmmmm, I may need to have one of these for myself. The garden was quite formal with lots of carefully clipped parterres and - a life sized dancing pig.

The weather gurus say so. If you look at the radar, the widest part of the storm is raging from Tallahassee to well north of us. It is supposed to be gone by tomorrow morning. There is a narrower but longer band down in the Tampa area that will presumable move east across the FL peninsula. Lots of thunder but not much wind yet, we are getting buckets of rain on already saturated soil so we've been warned to watch out for falling trees.

That's a Dendrobium, Jen. Which one, I don't know.

Nice bargain , Jen!
Alice, I got a little bit of that bamboo orchid from a large plant at the University where our club takes care of their orchid collection...I'll see if there's a piece laying around on the ground when I'm there on Thursday Whistling
TS Colin is doing an outstanding job of watering in my new sod...I brought in all the flowering and in bud plants so they don't get too beat up...and jammed everyone else shoulder to shoulder inside the safety of the lifelines on the bench...once the rains let up I'll space them back out a little bit so they can dry.

Bert, I'm glad you are back on the mend...I would have insisted on my IPad as part of my PT!

Yep, your guess of a phalaenopsis type Dendrobium is probably right, Jen. They're pretty cold tender but should do very well for you. Just remember to take it indoors in the winter if the nights are going below about 55.

We've got various degrees of squalls and rain going by us here but nothing alarming at all. Lots more to come today, but our weather guys say it will mostly be gone by tomorrow, too.

I've moved most of my Cattleyas under the eaves to let them dry out a bit, but everyone else will be happy with the thorough soaking they're getting.

I was concerned about this storm but managed to get to the gym and stop for a haircut on the way home without getting very wet. There was just light rain and no wind until noon when a band went through and we had a half hour of heavy rain and lots of wind. Since then it has been a little windy with light rain until 15 minutes ago when another band went through and the heavy rain has returned. All in all, not much to talk about. I closed all of the windows in the OC except for an east facing window and turned on all of the fans. The exhaust fan is pulling a nice breeze in but the heavy winds are not blowing the orchids around. I wonder how my shade huts are doing out there over the palm trees. I can't see them from the house.

Thought I give a progress report on my Vandachostylis Viboon Velvet. It got a huge faith-based watering yesterday too. Smiling

We wish it too, Jim! Our official total for the county is 4.97" since Oct. 1st. That's when our rain season officially starts. My total since July 1st is 4.98". Sighing!

We've had it pretty windy all day, but not all that much rain. Still there's more upwind of us so we're not out of the woods yet. Gonna be a bit of a clean-up in the garden with all the leaves and small branches down. It does give an idea what we'd be facing if we ever get a "real" storm.

Lots of air circulation around my orchids this evening, it seems!
