I've been searching to find a nice purple Dip, It's tough to search by ploidy on most sites and the internet colors are all over the place. For instance H. Barbary Corsair looks like a beautiful purple in some shots and a muddy red in others. I could really use some suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

I grow this one, and would recommend it. It has performed very well for me.

I am not familiar with Little Dreamer. I hope someone else can help you with this one.

Robin you can search here in the Daylily data base by searching characteristics. You can select diploid and put purple in color description. It will list everything with purple in the description including eyes edges etc... But you can stroll thru to find what you are looking for.

What type of purple are you looking for? Do you want black-purple, like Jungle Beauty?:

(lots of branches and buds, green-green throat, and gorgeous dark color!)

...or something more mauve, like Starman's Quest?:

(wonderful design to it, and the color can fluctuate depending on environmental factors)

....maybe a medium-purple, like Thanks Two Friends?:

(It was the first, by FAR, to bloom in my garden this year! It just bloomed several days ago, while my other earlies are just now putting up scapes. The color is more purple than this picture shows and my blooms last year were definitely more purple.)

...or a light purple-lavender?

I would recommend GRAPE VELVET. I wish I had a picture available to post.

Wow, those are some really good suggestions. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

I haven't seen any royal purple in the Daylily world so I was looking for a bright clear colored...as close to a dark, royal purple as I can get. I have a Tet picked out (H. Nosferatu) but also needed a Dip to expand my gene pool, so I can play with Dips too. I've been trying to build my DL stock in some sort of organized manner. Hilarious! It sure is tough to be focused and selective with this hobby.

I'm really liking 'Spirit World' for my purposes but; how can anyone ignore the black-purple in 'Jungle Beauty'? Yes the pattern in Starman's Quest is superb! Thanks for those Valerie and DND.

Karen, Woodside Amethyst is a petite little pretty, she's almost a bi-tone. Being slow to increase isn't a bad thing either. I've got to go and check out all of the foliage of the suggestions too. I may end up getting more than one (I hate it when that happens).

Oops, Grape Velvet is perfect too. If I were smart Whistling I'd buy them all and see for myself how each of these would look in my garden. Funny thing, I'm usually better at visualizing. I don't know why that talent doesn't work with Daylilies?

Thanks Karen and David!

Stan, I tried searching on our database. One would think if the search criteria were only ploidy and color, I'd get more than two hits.

The NGA database can be difficult to search for a specific color if you use the Flower Color selection area. After going into Search by Characteristics try typing the color you are looking for in the Color Description box just below Bloom Form. This brings up 3000+ diploids with "purple".

From what you've said it sounds like you are looking for a full form rather than narrow form diploid purple. My first thought was the Shooter daylilies, Eliezabeth works with diploids and has both full and narrow form purples. Their website show the ploidy along with the images so you don't need to click each daylily to see if it is a diploid. Here's a link to their website...

A favorite of mine from Elizabeth is Tuxedo Whiskers, although it may be narrower than what you are looking for and the color changes depending on the temperature.

Thanks @Char, I was just going to explain that the color description box vs the pre-selectable flower colors would load more CVs... Thumbs up

Robin, good luck with your search. I hope you find what you're looking for.
I tip my hat to you.
