This Beefsteak Begonia has such big rhizomes.


Here is new growth starting on a piece cut off and laid on soil surface about 2 months ago.

Growing so fast!

Without the rocks, this would not be so dramatic.


Wax Begonia stems stuck here a few months ago, taking off nicely.

After pushing the leaves aside a bit, the piece of rhizome on the soil surface is visible.

Early in the spring, I made a hanging basket with a LOT of Begonias in it, so I didn't have as many in the ground this summer. It's hard to remain focused when wandering the yard with the camera trying to take specific pics. :+) I probably missed a few.

This large stem is just starting to show its' new stem at its' base.


This one is a little farther along.


On this one, I'm holding the older stem back to show the newer, bigger stem.


Holding the old stem to show the 2 shorter new stems and much bigger one to the right that came up much sooner.


Original stem is sticking toward the camera at the bottom, newer bigger stem sticking straight up behind.


Older stems to the right, bigger, newer stem to the left.


This is the only one that decided to bloom instead of making a new stem, so far anyway.


Older stem ended up kind of laying down, with 2 perky new ones closer to camera.

Some stems in water, for a change of pace (and observable roots.) About 2 weeks after being cut.

A few months ago, this plant had 1 stem, which was cut, leaving the brown "cap" to the left. A new stem grew at that point, and now 2 more bigger, stronger ones are coming up from the roots.


The biggest piece of Begonia I've propagated. I put this here a couple months ago.
