I use the 4 parts water 1 part sugar too, nothing more. With the heat/humidity down here the feeders have to be cleaned/refreshed daily.

I think in cool spring and fall weather, at least up here, they might be OK for a couple of days. It's kind of like a refrigerator.

Ok. So, nectar is a total EZ button!

I thought I was gonna have to run around milking some special plants...

Here's a picture of some of the agastaches I've got. These smell wonderful (like rootbeer), so I have them planted right in front of my window well where my bedroom window is Smiling You'll have to forgive the background.. buckets for rocks & leaves everywhere, but I don't rake the leaves.. I leave them be for mulch protection! Plus it's fun having them planted right there.. sometimes I'll be awoken by the BZZZZ of the hummingbirds taking a morning drink.. drives the cats crazy!!

Yea! I still see them around, but getting less often now.

November 17...don't know if I've seen a hummingbird this late...but one's been here two days now. Put my feeder back up yesterday and I know it knows it's there, because today I saw it hovering around it. Cold today, forecast high only 60°. Hope it's one of the more cold tolerant kinds...and hope it gets enough to eat to make it further south. I still have a few Flame Acanthus and Turk's Cap blooming, a few salvias, in spite of our mild freeze recently.

P.S. Since I'm off hormones after 22 years, degree-wise 60 degrees is my new 90!
