The Black Krims I grow average 1+ pounds, and are meaty and dense, without being runny. It is my 2nd favorite heirloom tomato, after Pruden's Purple.
The fruits in your picture don't look like the Black Krims I've grown. Mine have a purple/black body as in your picture, but they are much more broad and rounded, and also exhibit the characteristic green shoulders all the way around, that tend to identify them as Black Krims. Additionally, the flesh of my Black Krims is a much darker purple/black/green color, almost like it is rotting. Which is why some people hesitate to taste it. The tomatoes in your pic are far more on the "red" side than any Blacks I've ever grown.
The fruit in my picture was a full 3" in diameter, completely filling the cupped palm of my hand. Seven people sampled thick slices of it in a taste test, and pronounced it "fantastic!"
It does have the complex, smokey tones you described.

I actually thought about the Bible verse where they sent spies into the promised land, and they brought back clusters of grapes so big it took two men to carry them. : ) I had plenty of cherry-type tomatoes, so I wasn't too upset about it.
