Last year, Jurassic Park had speckle fever. I had to move it this year, so it didn't bloom.

I had to go back and check my JP. Sure enough. They're faint but there.

Come to think of it my Jurassic Park did the same thing at the old place. In so much I didn't have a clue what it was when it FIRST bloomed. But it hasn't bloomed at my new place yet.

How interesting! I like the speckles too. Hurray!

Sue, I think they look like a tiny explosion of paint specks. I would think that if it was the same cultivar all would have the trait. I may be wrong.

All of my Ring around Rosie have a speckled burst on the standards. I didn't know Rosie could not have them.

Aril -- could you tell us a little more about that? About viruses in Irises (poetic, eh?) and speckles as a result and what to do about it (if anything)???

I just saw the faint speckles on a Ring Around Rosie that I brought in the house after knocking it off the plant the other day. There are other plants with speckles or flecks of color on the standards - Loreley, for example. I also have Whispering Spirits which is similar to Rosie, but with a more intense pattern on the falls. I like it better.

The database has PBF for Rosie. Not sure about WS, but I will check when I go out.

I have been looking into Ernst's line of irises beginning with Ring Around Rosie. I have 3 of them, but was never sure which was which, and they kind of disappear every now and then! This year, RAR is blooming for the first time, Whispering Spirits has gone missing, and one that I thought I had lost, Carnival Ride, is blooming beautifully! It has a much darker, heavier pattern than the others. There is more offspring from this family, I am looking up child plants.

Ring Around Rosie was fine for us; Whispering Spirits didn't like us at all.

On the Homepage is Plant Database. You can choose which plants you want or just type in the name. If you're on your phone, it will be a circle with 3 lines in it. That will bring up a list with the database.

If you go to plant database to the right will be a list of the different databases. Click on irises, then will come up more choices, back on the left, like search by characteristics. This is fun, you can search for all irises by a certain hybidizer, for example; you can search for Purple Based Foliage; you can search for blue irises with PBF, etc. etc.

I like playing around with the search. I also like following parent/child plants. Kind of interesting to see who begat whom!
