Have quite a few hostas, most of which are quite healthy -- but there are several that seem to be chewer-magnets; well-supplied with Buggetta pellets, etc., but that doesn't seem to faze the buggers; any suggestions what might be at work here and how to send them to some other nirvana? Thanks!

The damage looks like slug/snail damage. You can pour beer in small low containers like canned fish or cat food comes in. The slugs and snails will avoid Bugetta/snail pellets in favor of a swim in beer. It doesn't have to be premium beers, but it can't be the non-alcohol or near beer variety...They go for the hoppy.yeasty full strength stuff. Tuck the tins around the garden before dark, and give them a look in the morning.

I would also say slugs or snails - my hostas get the same thing - if you go out early in the morning, or late at night, you might actually be able to see them and squash them Sticking tongue out The beer seems to work pretty well, but when I had a serous infestation, I did resort to using Ortho slug bait. I'd start with beer first, and also the seek-and-squash methods before resorting to chemicals though - much better for your garden and the environment in the long run.
