I have two pots of ciliosum, but I think they are both the borisii. The one that got blasted has turned all to blooms but the other is OK. Who would have thought that you need to protect your collection from hard objects falling from the sky?

valleylynn said:Here are my two ciliosum. They do look very similar but have some differences. Wouldn't want to grow these two side by side. They are growing in the same bed about 2 feet away from each other.

S. ciliosum 'Boresii' 6/10/2011 and S. ciliosum 6/10/2011

I see what you mean Lynn - Boresii has more of the little leaves on the stolons, but otherwise very similar. Hmm. And the way they are named is different too (borissii, Boresii)

Oh well. Thumbs down

I would think the two forms of the name are referring to the same plant. I know that I have probably misspelled it several times.

I would expect S. ciliosum to be different from S. ciliosum "borissii" (spelling notwithstanding). As the attachment of "borissii" indicates it is either a form or variety of S. ciliosum.

but borisii is a recognized subspecies of ciliosum and is noted for its long cilia. I have that one from last year on a trade. I think that Boresii and borisii are just the same form, one with a misspelled name. It wouldn't make sense for someone to name two varieties with names that similar, especially when it is a relatively rare species with limited varieties compared to some of the others.

I agree, everything I have read on this points to what twit says in above quote. Some times it is 'Boresii' or similar spelling, and some times labeled as S. boresii. Sure does get confusing. Confused

I thought we were discussing S. ciliosum vs. S. ciliosum "borissii". Are we discussing Borissii vs. boresii? I'm confused now. Blinking
