Thread OP

If you stepped in wild mushrooms during winter could the toxins still be on my shoes right now?

Strange question...but as long as you don't lick the soles of your shoes you should be safe from toxic mushrooms.

So if you washed your clothes that might have had them on them could it still be there or washed out. Sorry extremely paranoid about mushrooms.

Welcome to Garden.org, @Krista24 !

I think any allergens from the mushrooms would be washed out of your clothes. If you don't mind me asking -- have you had a contact-type allergic response to wild mushrooms in the past?

You will be breathing in many more fungal spores than would be on your shoes. I wouldn't worry.

I re-read the original question. You asked about stepping on the mushrooms in the winter - we have no idea where you are living. Perhaps if you would take a few moments to complete your profile page to include your location we might give you better answers for any toxic mushrooms that may grow in your area. Thank You!

Very good point, Greene! (I think we can rule out Krista living in the Michigan UP ! Hilarious! )

It takes ingesting mushrooms to make one ill.

I might just for safties sake, wash you hands after handling them.

I will grant you that eating mushrooms without positive identification is a terrible plan.

Maybe she's worried about her dogs licking her shoes? (Why, yes, my doggies like to slobber all over mine.)
