I have a few irises with really husky stalks and blooms of good substance that seem to grow vigorously in NE Iowa.
One of mine I call tall white noid, another is
Thornbird
Dusky Challenger
Superstition
Yaquina Blue

Any that you have noticed?

War Chief has the biggest stalks here. They're really beefy! The pallidas seem to have the narrowest.

Cloud Ballet put out many blooms per stalk and the stalk stayed nice and tall. It also bloomed for about 3 weeks.
And one for sheer impossible to kill is Cat's Eye. Agressive grower that quickly takes an area over. I'm potting mine this year just to contain it.
And I sure agree with your Dusky Challenger and Yaquina Blue. Darcy's Choice does real well here as well.

Blessings
