I know they have ink,etc, but I used a whole pile of trade mags as the first layer of my compost / mulch / weed killer. Now I am adding plant matter on top and will continue to do so, but this provided a quick fix to get me to tackle an impossible area.
This is an ornamental garden, not a food garden

Will they combust? If not and its a non-food bed, have fun.
