Hi everyone! I know you want raffle tickets and one easy way to get five acorns is to post an event to the Gardening Calendar of Events. It's looking a little sparse right now! But check it out here: http://garden.org/apps/events/

You get five acorns for each event you post. So what kind of events do you post? Well, I belong to a local botanical garden and they have plant festivals every so often. I also look in the newspaper for ideas. The weekend section often lists plant shows from the different plant societies. Also, on Sunday in the Home or Real Estate section they have a Garden Calendar that lists events. Maybe you're friends with groups on Facebook that are holding a native plant sale or a plant identification walk? Most edible plants have a festival of some kind associated with them. Here it's strawberries, blueberries, kumquats, tomatoes, etc. Do you live near a preserve or nature center that is giving a lecture on pollinators, birds, or other topics relevant to gardeners? I love going out and attending these kinds of events. I even go to plant shows for plants I don't even grow just because it's so much fun to see the different varieties!

And remember - if you attend an event - take pictures! Then, you can add them to the plant database for more acorns! I recently attended a Hibiscus show and earned about 300 acorns from the pictures I posted to the database. Many of them were the first photo we had in the database. So go add some events, attend some events, and help the site (and your acorn stash) grow!

Thanks for reminding us of this, Melanie. I put one in last night, and will watch for more events. It's nice that we can search for things in our area that are interesting to us.

I agree, Karen! I was really excited when Dave launched the feature. And because we have a lot of new members since the merge, I thought it was worth pointing it out. Now, I have to go add some events I know I are coming up!

Melanie, I've been trying to add an event but keep getting a database error message ... not sure what I'm doing wrong but here's the information in case anyone in Florida is interested:

McKee Botanical Garden 12th annual Water Lily Celebration
Saturday June 18th
8:30 a.m. until 2: 00 p.m.

Florida's largest Water Lily collection, consisting of nearly 500 plants will be on display. This annual celebration attracts hundreds of visitors, photographers, artists and horticulturalists.

Gates open earlier than usual to allow for self guided tours to view some of the night blooming varieties before they retreat. Plant experts will be available throughout the day to answer questions and advise visitors on how to characterize the hardy species from the tropical varieties. They will also offer demonstrations on re-potting. Vendors will be on site with an array of plants for purchase. Photo's for the annual Water Lily Photo Contest will be on display in the historic Hall of Giants and visitors will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the "People's Choice".

Summer admission rates apply and are as follows: Adults $10.00, Seniors $9.00, Children (3-12) $5.00
McKee members and children under the age of 3 are Free.

Well, it must have been something I was doing wrong because I just tried again and it accepted it this time. Sorry.

So I just re did mine in a very simple format and it posted. Make it simple.

I need to edit the event dates. (Oops)

I have cataracts and the vision especially in my right eye is getting really bad. I'm not certain but when I first got the error message, I may very well have been typing my message into the wrong area (like the location.)

Well, we're all learning today! I messed up the first one I did and had to edit it. Dave makes that pretty easy, though, so no worries!

I was going to send a private message but perhaps others will want this info.

I inadvertently duplicated an entry in the event section. I can't figure out how to delete one of the two.

This may have generated a duplicate acorn award also. I don't know how many I had to start ..but -- those acorns seemed automatically awarded in seconds.

So, how can I delete the duplicate entry and how do I return acorns?
