A lot of websites now are allowing users to signup up with very minimum information but display a status bar indicating to the user how their profile/account hasn't been filled out fully.

I can search for "Lathers japonicus" and I'll get several records some are filled out some are just a name of a variety.
On the search result page having a column devoted to display a percent bar graph graphic to give the users an indication on which record has the most information and also which records might need some TLS.

From a gamification standpoint I see where it could turn out some good results.
On the "Lathers japonicus" search if I noticed the base record was at 90% of being complete it would inspire me to get it to 100.
Of course what 100% means is a bit of a grey area but there is nothing stoping something for being 100%+ . If all the base info has been filled out and additional photos have been added or comments.

Just an idea
