Been cooking and baking for my flooded neighbors. To top off the tacos on National Taco Day, I made the Applesauce Cake 1. from Allrecipes.com. I doubled the recipe made for a 9x9 pan and used it in a bundt pan plus another 6" layer. I added extra raisins, walnuts and added nutmeg. It was so moist and nummy! This is a Keeper. I used a Carmel Glaze from another recipe. Try this one. You won't be sorry. No photos of it glazed before I cut it up. Oops!

That cake was good on it's own. Most and tasty like a spice cake, tasting like fall. The caramel glaze was, well, icing on the cake! Try it! Simple ingredients.

I used to do it, Anna. If you have the starter going, just use it and keep it going. I had mine for a few years.

It was my first attempt at making a starter too. I've had it in the fridge and not fed it, so yesterday I took out some to make the bread, and since I didn't know if it was a "viable" starter to begin with, I fed it with rye flour. "It's ALIVE!!!!" Really bubbled up the side of the jar. Green Grin!

I think you'll enjoy making the bread with the starter. It is fun!

A long time ago, I had a fermented pot of fruits. We used the fruits over ice cream or pound cake. It was mildly alcoholic, and each time we used it, we put in more fruit. It was delicious!

Try baking a Sourdogh loaf freely without pan like they do in San Francisco?

Cheryl, I will probably use a pan so I can make the Spousal Unit's sandwiches for his field lunches. More uniformity in the slices .
