This tree has been growing on my neighbor's front lawn for years.
About 6 yrs. ago--she had it cut down to the roots. She thought
that would "kill it"---She is NOT a gardener.
Now it has re-grown is it's full glory. I believe it may be a frut tree
of some sorts. Just because of the leaves.

Can anyone tell me what this tree is? Thanks, Gita

Not a lot to work with there, but looks a lot like a Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana).

I'm not going to reiterate how to provide more information here. I think all of you know the drill.

Persimmon is fruit bearing--right? I think I have eaten these.
Very sweet and tasty.

This tree was there long before she had it cut down.
NO persimmons! Are we in the wrong zone?
Now it has re-grown to the same size~ 6'-7'.
What should I look for?

How long does it take for a Persimmon to fruit?

Could be Diospyros kaki too, though I don't get to see that one in the Ohio River valley.

The genus Diospyros tends to be dioecious, which means with a single tree you may never see fruit.

Not the wrong zone, Gita. I had a Persimmon tree at my last house it it would bear fruit every year... lots of fruit. And I'm fairly certain there was not another Persimmon tree in the area for many miles.

The leaves on that tree are similar to the ones on the Persimmon tree I had but not an exact match. I'm not positive but I do not think that's what you have there.

Gita, you don't remember this tree flowering at any time?

Or dropping fruit?

Flowers and fruit may be not present now on this young growth, though.

I am sure it has never had any fruit on it....so NO dropping of fruit.

Since I never, really, paid much attention to this tree--I will be more
curious if it has any blooms or anything resembling fruit. Almost sure--NO!

Olga's front lawn and mine are "neighbors" I see it every time i am outside.
Olga, probably, never pays any attention to it. To her it was a nuisance-
so she had it cut down, not realizing it would re-grow. She does not understand the
"ifs' and"hows" of gardening.
I believe her cutting things down-including her (ahem--HIS) big Fig Tree
was a way of her dealing with the sudden death of her husband.
She took out her pain and anger by getting rid of trees that had been HIS to care for
there for a long time--like the HUGE Fig tree--which was "HIS". She was. literally, crying over
this tree being gone. DAH! SHE paid someone to cut it down.

Then--she goes through a period of regret, being remorseful that now NO ONE in the
family will ever have a piece of HIS tree. And was so happy that one of the
cuttings I took rooted and was growing. She cried when I showed it to her and gave it to her.

Then--winter comes--and, again all my suggestions that she insulate, somehow, thew roots
of the big tree which had re-sprouted--she does NOTHING and it dies back again.

Oh well--Spanish women can be temperamental. Que sera--sera....Whatever will be, will be...

Like--"Don't blame the tree and take out your anger on the trees by destroying them"!

Definitely looks like a live oak to me! With beautiful branching and vines!

As far as the original posting...It looks like an American Persimmon to me.
