Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Bertie Ferris')

I ordered Bertie Ferris from G.H. Wild and planted it on 06-13-2015, so it was a tiny plant when I received it. I don't think I even noticed that is was Mini when I ordered it. I have since acquired a few more minis. Bertie Ferris has not done all that well, it appears it is taking a while to settle in here. It did bloom this year, and it did rebloom this year, and I might even get another round of blooms off of it. I did show quite a bit of rust this year, the blooms are plain, and very small. But in the right place and situation such small plants can be attractive, I just have not worked it into the right spot yet. I plan to leave it in the present location till it matures more then look for a more attractive location for it. I took this photo this morning, the bloom was exceptionally small. Maybe an inch and a half. The foliage has never looked that great and the plant has never looked robust and really healthy, but it is still young. So far it is slow to multiply and the scapes have been very small with a low bud count.

I have had very good success with Bertie Ferris. A clump was given to me by a friend at least 10 years ago. I planted it in a semi-shaded area of my garden, and it has performed very well. It looks nice blooming against a dark background. It has proved to be very hardy. and a reliable bloomer.

Bertie Ferris has performed very well for me. It is a compact clump and produces 6-8 scapes and usually blooms for at least a month.

Bertie Ferris is a very hardy little mini daylily. The blooms are always perfect and numerous. Bertie Ferris thrives perfectly in my zone 6b southern Kentucky garden.

I have had this plant since June 2015, so just over two years. There are too many fans in the clump for me to count they are so crowded, I would guess around 25 to 30.
I pulled nearly 20 scapes from my little 'Bertie Ferris' clump this morning. They averaged 23 inches tall, with mostly 2way branching (beginning to get several three way branching scapes) with an averaged bud count of 9 per scape.The blooms are small, 2.5 inches. Naturally the blooms in the photo this late in the season are reblooms.

I love Bertie Ferris. It is small I have out at my mailbox at the end of the drive, It gives such a burst of color love the soft orange and has tons of scapes. I have moved it a couple of times and it settles in quicky like it hadn't moved. For such a small plant it puts on a great show. It is a keeper.

I've had Bertie Ferris for many years. Mine hasn't gone very crazy but it hasn't had any help until this summer. It's a sweet apricot that plays well with others. I'm guessing that I will start to see some big fan additions by next summer with all the extra water and food.

I got Bertie Ferris in 2016 and it has done very well in my zone 6b garden. I have not seen rust on it. Even though the scapes are only 20" tall, they hold the blooms nicely above the foliage. I couldn't find a good picture showing branching and bud count, but this picture has a couple of scapes in the back that look pretty good.


It has multiplied very well, but I didn't get a clump shot of it this year.

All the blooms that I've noticed are perfect and symmetrical. I hesitate to say how long it blooms because I sort of quit taking pictures of all the perfect blooms on it. But it does bloom for a few weeks in mid to late June.

I don't know where mine went. It could have been dug out accidentally in one of my many purges of Fulva…I'm constantly digging those out and sometimes that includes whatever clump they've gotten tangled up with.
