Does anyone know what this shrub is? The very few flowers it has produced are dark red with spidery elongated petals at the ends of the branches - unfortunately none there now for photograph. It's deciduous and if any flowers appear they come late spring and the leaves are starting to turn yellow already.
Name: Daisy I Reno, Nv (Zone 6b) Not all who wander are lost
Calycanthus occidentalis is the one usually available on the west coast. The flowers smell like old red wine barrels.
They can get out of hand if you let the branches lie on the ground (they root at every leaf node).
