Generally we get hundreds of them each year but not one this year. Same thing for my neighbor. Neither of us used Preen, so what happened?

Don't know why you didn't get them. Here I have lots of volunteers.

Plenty of them here as well...along with a whole lot of watermelon volunteers. I transplanted a few of the melons to an area outside my planned veggie garden and we'll see what happens. I also let about 4 of the tomato volunteers keep going as they sprung up in spots that fit in nicely with the rest of the garden. Those are almost always cherry or grape type 'maters, but occasionally I'll get one that produces slicers.

Dry weather can't be the cause here since our irrigation system goes on four times a week (well water). Seems the compost piles should be loaded with volunteers since so many tomatoes fell into them.

Well, I guess the seed may have frozen this winter because of no snow cover.....I know it went down to minus 15 here on Valentine's Day....that may have killed the seeds.....

I've had more volunteers this year than I ever remember having before. I've always pulled them in the past, but decided to let one of them grow this year. Has anyone had a seedling that was so good that you wanted to plant it again? I'm kind of hoping that happens, but I expect that it will be the opposite!

Could be, Marilyn.

Some are very good! Try growing one and see how you like it.

I usually allow the strongest one to live. Never had a terrible one and often they're quite good as anything we can grow from seed or buy.

Three months late but still good to see them though it's very late. I doubt we'll get tomatoes from them but I do have several Sweet 100's.

I haven't noticed any ripe tomatoes on my volunteers yet, but it's a tomato plant jungle out there! I need to take another look and see if I can find anything. I suspect at least one of mine could be from Sweet 100. I sure do love that tomato! Has anyone compared it to Super Sweet 100?

We've grown both in the past, and Sweet Million, but Sweet 100 is our favorite.

Try Sweetie Cherry. It is sweeter than both Sweet 100 and Sweet Million.

Thanks Arlene. I've wondered about Sweet Million too, so I'll stick with Sweet 100.

I'll have to try that one Rita. The sweetest tomato I've ever had is Isis Candy. It's amazing, and it really is like eating candy. Anything sweeter than that would be almost too sweet! They are really pretty too, which is a bonus!
