TY for sharing the excitement! If you're pulling, that might break the roots & pull off the seed capsule. If you do dig, you might find a palm seed capsule attached to the roots. IDK if all palm seed capsules remain recognizable for a long time but I've found them on parlor plants that had some age to them.


Palm seeds are heavy and not built to be carried on the wind, so unless a critter moves them, they wouldn't go far. I'd suspect the closest ones to the spot. If you don't want to pot them up, try putting a little ring of rocks or whatever to remind you not to step there or pull them. IDK what else might sprout that resembles palm sprouts in your area, though, you might want to confirm the wisdom of waiting with others in your area.

Here are the other sprouts I mentioned at the beginning of this discussion. It's been too hot & buggy to try to get their pic until today. Their ID is also a total mystery to me. I'm just glad they still look alive, it's been hard to water everything as often as it has gotten thirsty this summer. Soooo dry!

I think what I see here all the time are seedlings of Sabal Palms or Saw Palmettos... they are both prolific here in Florida.

Update on the 2nd palm from initial post, now out of ground & in a pot with Dracaena 'Rikky/Ricky' and some Begonia cuttings. It's hard to see, hard to find an angle w/o ugly "under construction-ness" in the background.

Looks good. I imagine your mixed pots many times have to grow in till they look really comfortable.
My mixed pots are all summer containers. And now I have to break them down to smaller individuals, take cuttings, or just let them go.

The smallest ones are in this pot. The one in front on the right has its' seed visible. All 4 still had seeds attached to their roots.



The 2 that are older/bigger are at the right end of this pot.

In greenhouse, sheltering from cold last night & tonight.

I'm so bummed, 2 of the babies in my pot of 4 seedlings look dead.

Older entities are doing well though. All blooming like crazy!


The one inside has a ton of Coleus in its' pot, anxious to get back outside.


This pot lives under carport & has only sheltered in greenhouse on the 2 coldest nights. Wind blew one sideways, need to fix that soon.


This pot has more sensitive pot-mates & has been in the greenhouse for about a dozen more nights, total, so far this winter. Yes, I've been moving plants in/out. They just look so much better, I don't want to lose that from being lazy, and moving pots is good exercise, yes?

We've had such crazy warm spells, I also moved some thing outside for a while. The lemon tree is much happier for it, I think I keep it too dry inside, it drops leaves, but outside, I can soak it.

TYVM! Yes, that's part of it. I can't water anything in greenhouse, no drip trays & the floor is plywood.

The palm sharing its' pot with Coleus, Begonias & a Dracaena 'Rikki' is back outside. Now, time to cut the Coleus off & stick back in the ground.

This pot stayed outside all winter. The 2 nights it was in the 20's, it went in greenhouse. Otherwise, it stayed under carport. This pot has 4 parlor palms (Chamaedorea elegans,) some Tradescantia zebrina, and a little Sago that sprouted from seed a few years ago, hidden under the others. Will get a pic of it soon.


This is a sprout from the seeds of one of my parlor palms. So thrilled this happened!!


And although 2 of my other little palm seedlings bit the dust, I found 2 more & added them to this pot, so it's back to 4. (With some Sedum.) The 2 new ones I found were in mowed area, so they have to be from something growing in the area, not seeds I've brought back from FL & scattered in cultivated areas.

I'd like to get a tall palm for work . Like the cat palm or other I see at Home Depot for 10-15$ It will need to tolerate questionable but 12 hours a day fluorescent light and dry air. (Other plants can do OK but where this will sit not right under the best lit areas.) Is this feasible?

I guess I can move my Chamaedorea outside now, it is staying above 40 at night now.

Sally, did you get a work palm? If you still seek answers to the question, asking it separately in a new discussion would get the attention for the question that it deserves. I have zero experience keeping any palm under fluorescent light.

An update of this pot, last shown 3/18. Many of the companions are smaller or seem gone because I snipped them off as cuttings to start more of them elsewhere to augment my ground landscaping for summer.

Cute things! I assume my pot of Chamaedorea will recover now in shade and rain. But I tend to forget it. When my plants get really big, there's only so much room inside for winter, and I know something will have to go

The oldest plants that yielded the seeds, spending the summer under carport. Not as satisfying to me but under the trees the previous 2 summers, they got sooty mold. That comes off of some plants more easily, but not this, just had to wait for those leaves to be shed.


There's a big frond of something else to the left, sago I think (Cycas revoluta.) I put a big red seed that I got in trade in this pot a few years ago and it looks like it is time to separate the 2 entities at the next repot. Sago is going to need the same air-space as the palms, and maybe be bigger than them pretty soon. Hardy enough to be grounded.

Update on baby NOID palm sprouts, last shown above about 11 months ago. Geez this is going really slowly.

I'm so bummed, I forgot about the pot of big palms from 6/15 pic and I'm not sure any are still alive, outside in freezing temps for a few nights. The group was one of my oldest plants.

But this one looks good, (NOID). Pot-sharing with Dracaena 'Rikki' and some little snake plants (Sansevieria.)
