More bad news, I'm afraid. This problem was brought into the state in deer imported from another state. I hope the lesson learned will be taken seriously. It shouldn't have happened, but it did!

@LindaTx8, we only have one female white tail out here and the rest are Axis
When I first started reading the article, it was reading like only white tail are susceptible but no they aren't . That's scary, I know a lot of people get ticked because they eat their plants but I would really miss them not being around and why isn't your area on the map, if there are sick deer there, it should be updated

I'm not on the map? Medina Co. is just west of Bexar Co. , includes the towns of Castroville, Lytle, D'Hanis, Hondo and I live in the far NE corner of the county. But I don't know what part of Medina Co. the deer breeding ranch is in. I think the reason why the deer from other states are brought in is because the hunters supposedly like to shoot the large bucks with the antler racks. Well, a lot of Texas deer are kind of small and there's only so many mature bucks with those racks, anyway...those tend to get shot, you know? I never do see any deer with antlers here. So they have these ranches that import deer and breed the more desirable kinds, I guess. Personally, I think that's disgusting! And although they haven't found any evidence so far that this disease could eventually turn out like Mad Cow Disease...well, who knows? In Europe, they were clueless about their cattle for a long time, and kept eating that beef from the sick cattle.

I meant the map showing where the CWD cases are, your area wasn't dotted on their map in the story
When I was young and still living with family, we hunted for food, not trophies, so I don't understand that part . I believe they said in the article, we just don't know about domestic animals or humans.
Scary
