Hey, don't mind me...I'm just lost in my house trying to find where I left myself. Happy October. This has to be my favorite month. When it's not raining, the sun rises and sets with an incredible golden orange light and the leaves (up here) are gloriously shading from green to all of the colors of the red and yellow ranges.

Stan has the cows on meadows now. The dry cows are back on the millet until frost. The side hill is too big for pasture, so he does plan on mowing it and refilling the little silo (12x50). The forecast is looking good for next week, so he might actually get it done.

Gorgeous photo, Kathleen. I don't know if there will be much color here...........been pretty warm and that seems to affect color. Anyway, that's what *I* think. Big Grin

Making lunch.............cooking up some chicken breast. Chopped back a few plants this morning. We had a frost on Sat. night that was enough to freeze my alo and colo leaves, so I will just cut them off and they will be ok. Some brug tops are crunchy, but didn't kill them. Could be close to 80 by the end of the week. I'll take that. But, I suppose it is time to start the march to the greenhouse with the plants so I don't have to do it all in one day. BTDT and it's not fun.

been there, done that, got the tee-shirt...

We've actually had some sun. When Jess gets done with her chores, we're going to walk someplace. Probably back to the woods.

No, not a t-shirt..........it's tank tops for me. Gads, I STILL can't wear anything with sleeves. Wish this female thing would run its course. Isn't 13 years enough??? Apparantly not......

Try Isoflavones. They are made from soy and work well without any side effects ( unless you're allergic to soy).

I forgot to say that the picture above is an older one, but we are headed toward a fall like that, in spite of the strange weather and the many stressed trees that just turned brown and did a leaf drop earlier. We are just getting past the " a little rusty" stage.

Nah, the soy stuff didn't work. I"m just dealing with it, as it's not nearly as bad as it was 10 years ago. Mostly just annoying.

We don't get much fall color around here but many of the trees had prematurely (in August, in some cases) dropped their leaves or else turned completely brown as if it were December. Interestingly some of the trees that I feared were dead or dying because of the drought, were apparently just dormant. The Bradford pears (dreadful things that they are) are now putting on leaves and blooming! I can't tell for sure yet, but I am pretty sure that oaks and pecans that look dead actually are.
The pastures with Bermuda or Bahia grass in them are showing a slight tint of green, but the native grasses have not recovered. It is amazing what one brief rain can do!

We actually could use a nice shower here, but since the weather is in the upper 70's for this week, I guess it better not cause the combines are hitting the fields full speed. Guy that has our farm rented started doing beans today. Not ours, another farm he rents. I'm thinking SU is going to get pressed into service for him, either driving his other combine when our DS#1 isn't here to run it, or he'll have to run the catch cart. Ain't gonna see ME running it, as they unload on the go and I seem to have difficulty with it. Big Grin

Anna, just say no - yeesh, you've done enough!

We are in the midst of a beautiful week. There was frost in the lower elevations, but my garden is still good. I may go out and see if I can find enough tomatoes for soup. There should be some strawberries around, too, but I need someone younger and more flexible to pick them.

The flower beds are still full of color, from really late garden phlox to autumn asters and crocus. If only they weren't so weedy!

They will not ask me to do that. I will make him rolls. The neighbor, I mean. All machines stop if I wander in with a pan of warm rolls. Big Grin

RAIN! We got 1 1/2" of rain yesterday. I hope it will sprout the winter rye, and the struggling regrowth of grass already looks greener.

I was doing a happy rain dance (in my head) for you yesterday when I saw the radar. I know it's not near enough, but maybe it will prime the pump, so to speak.

It must have worked, Kathleen!

As for Anna's suggestion: me outside "nekkid" would probably not encourage anything except, possibly, some really desperate mosquitoes.

Oldest DS called this morning about 9 am from work......wanted to know if the SU could go run the combine till he could leave his work (I should add here that the kid usually gives the boss his 8 hours, or close to it, then comes home about 1 pm and runs the combine till who knows when. And I will let you do the math on how much sleep he gets during harvest season.) Ok, SU can do that. I called him a bit ago and wanted to know if I should bring him some din-din........he said yes........he was plugged up and had a broken belt. Kid had just gotten there and now was off to buy a belt somewhere. Gads, what a pile of bean straw he had dug out of there and he wasn't done yet. Said the kid was ugly. (ya think????........not like HE wouldn't have plugged it up........) Anyway, I asked SU if it plugged because the belt broke, or if the belt broke because he plugged it???? He said he didn't have a clue.........for all he knew he might have run a rock in it and that started the chain of events. Any-hoo...........glad *I* could come home. Big Grin Now to have a spot of lunch and maybe find something to do outside.............spose I should start hauling some of the green children in, tho it's not sposed to get even close to freezing yet this week...........but I better get at it so I don't have to do it all in 1 day (and night.....LOL.....BTDT....)

We have got dedicated cows. Stan just turned them out into a 20 mph wind driven rain with a windchill of 34 and they are chowing down. He's got them in the forage oats again and that must be some good stuff, because they are all head down and grazing like crazy. Personally, I'm staying in.
