My college roommate dealt with everything bug-like with hairspray. I don't think it killed outright, but their legs and wings and other parts got stuck together rendering them immobile.

That brings back memories of painting with my dad, and watching him use a can of gold spray paint in defense from hornets. Lovey dubby

I've been raising Monarch butterflies this summer (probably released about 78). However, I found that the wasps were very destructive. They seek out the eggs laid under the milkweed leaves and even the small caterpillars are attacked -- sucked dry ! Horrible. I can't spray, not good for the plant, eggs, or cats. So, I started bringing the leaves in with eggs on them, raising them to little cats; transferring them to the plants (in pots) and putting the pots in net hampers -- all to keep the wasps away. The wasp traps I got just didn't work.

place crevis attachment to the vacume cleaner pipe and hose
tie or tape the wand and hose to a stirdy wooden stake, earily in the a.m. secure the stirdy
stake into the ground with the crevis attachment near as possible to nest. when sun comes up and the wasps begin to fly around turn on your vacume. I`ve done this several times and it took only20 to30 mins. to suck `em out of the air while I was watching from afar.twice before the wasp spray damaged, and or killed my rose bush
Simple on a Schedule

Ive been told you can put one of those bug zappers near the nest and the humming draws the wasps out in defense and zap zap Zap......I haven't tried it but supposedly you can clear the whole nest that way....

Hornets nest treatment come with a lot more danger than Wasps. Treatment is far more dangerous & takes a bit longer than Wasps to successfully treat.

I am with most of you...wasp usually do good, but .....when they are in the wrong place and making trouble...boric acid (cockroach dust) works well if you can put it where they step or eat. We had void wasps trying to build a nest under our house by eating the joists...dust at the vents where they walk/land worked very well.
