I've seen people use real pumpkins for vases for displaying fall flowers. I'm wondering how you would keep them fresh tho. Doesn't seem to me that they would hold up well, but I guess you could always just put a real container inside the pumpkin. And a tip for you all, if your carved pumpkins start to droop and get soft, put them in ice water over night. It will refresh them wonderfully!
I wish I could! That would be so much fun! We could have a blast and get into all kinds of trouble! Don't know if you can tell in the pictures, but there is a wooden apple planter out front that I filled with downfall apples from the neighbor's trees and I'm so glad I did! The corn stalks still have some ears on them, and the deer kept tearing them down and knocking them over, but now they just eat the apples out of the planter and leave the corn stalks alone!
Oh! Forgot to mention, the "vase" outside the front door is actually an oatmeal container that I just spray painted and glued a ribbon on. Filled the bottom with rocks for weight, and then just stuck all the plants in and filled with bark and such to hold them in place.
