Great time! I highly recommend it! I will divulge more Monday or Tuesday when I get home. I will say one teaser though, I may or not have met The man of mystery himself.......roosterlorn!
I wanted to get down there Saturday but I don't think I can make it unfortunately. But I did see the show is in St. Louis next year. Not too far of a drive. I did see a picture of the best of show lily. Looked great!
Name: Lily Martagon Du Page County Illinois (Zone 5a)
I know right,Tracey. There are a lot of entries in that room! I used to attend the local lily society's show in that same room.
Yeah Dave, I wish I wasn't working tonight and tomorrow night. I would love to hear Dr. Bergman talk tomorrow. I sort of like stopped by, took some pics, talked to a couple of people and left. And I got talked to renewing my membership at my lily society.
Decided mid week to attend the show Saturday. Several recent year shows nearby and schedules that conflicted with work life. It was nice to put faces with names yesterday and talk to a few of what I call "the greats". I attended the full day of lectures and at times realize that I know more than I think. I am not confident in my knowledge but have learned so much over the last 10 or so years. Hanging out with the Iowa Regional Lily Society was wonderful. Having met Sue and Wanda years ago, it was nice to catch up with them too and also meet three new Iowa lily growers.
Here are some photos from the show. I may be biased as I was super excited about a few of them. I will try to post in order, the flower and the grower. And some ribbons where they pertain. I took a lot of pictures, but there were more.
A view from an aisle
I really liked this one a lot. It has the coloring of Francis Ann but with larger flowers. I'll have to get my hands on this one if it ever is available!
We have many 'Awesome' fans here. It was shown in all her glory by Wanda Lunn. A well deserved award winner. She has apparently entered stems many times and never received a ribbon. This was the year of Wanda..
My personal favorites of the show are these three from Rimmer de Vries
This is another stem that looked particularly pleased to be grown so well. Wow!
Now some arrangements..
a couple of random images....
And after missing Lorn and Joe by a mere few feet in the morning, I was able to meet Joe just before the awards dinner. It was great to meet you, Joe. You only made me wish I had spent the week at the show. Super great talking with you and hope your trip home is safe!
Tracey, I'm glad you took pictures to post. I somehow erased (or lost) one whole session of between 50 to 75 pictures on my SD card. Not sure how I did it, but they're gone! It had to happen at the show, too, because session 1 is OK and a short 3rd session is all intact. My favorite was the second one you posted. That's the one he wanted to show me when we left the lecture in a bit of a rush.

Well, It's certainly got many a folks attention. If they weren't too familiar with it before, they sure as heck are now. Lots of talk overheard about 'where can they get one, etc.' I lost about 10 or 12 up close photos from top, sides, and various angles of Awesome. It is not easy to capture it's beauty in a photograph.
