Gordon in looking at the flower, you have a male plant.

oh.. I just sawyour wonderful offer.. yes I am still at 351 Court street.. and i'd love to have some.. a bit of an update on mine..
it was planted in the end of a planter that was 5" wide and 18' deep and maybe 36" long.. guess it had it's big ubderground bulb develop in there,, at the other end was a foam devidor and the planter continued another 5 ft.. I was removing the 5' section today and discovered roots had escaped the smaller origional planter and made two bulbs .. [ 2" dia and 8" long ] with 2 new smaller plants in the section being removed.. amazing root development.. a real strong grower.. the root grows along.. then makes a new bulb/plant.. then grows along more..
so you think i had a male flower... got me..i have no idea.. but send the females in and we'll see if i can get the gourds.. this year or next...

I sent you some roots rather than cuttings - they went out today.

Only the female have the gourds - click on the picture - the male flower is on the left and the female on the right - you can see the immature gourd at the base of the flower.

Here is what a newly fertilized gourd looks like - the 2nd picture is of an almost ripe one. The third a ripe gourd.

I've tasted the fruit but didn't really care for the taste of it or the smell - kind of a sickening lemony smell. Also I hand pollinated mine - I haven't had any spontaneous fertilization so far so I'm thinking we don't have we don't have the right kinds of pollinators for it .. especially since it's a night bloomer.
