We may not here from her until Sunday night. She is probably busy packing her van for a sale at the Rododendron species botanical garden sale in Federal Way. Starts Friday at 3. I'm going and will say hi to her. She has a beautiful display there.

I never remember it as large but it is an 'Atropurpureum' seedling, which was large. It held its color very well. One of the most distinctive things was that, while the lower leaves lie very flat, the inner leaves go nearly straight up.

Of course it's been 40 years since I grew it. Betty sent Polly and I pieces of it to grow before she named it. The cilia were fairly distinct and contrasted with the leaf color.

valleylynn said:Melissa that is not 'Strider'.

This is a photo of 'Strider' from Howards Wills.

And Chris' photos look like the same thing as Fernwood's photos.

Oh, I didn't think my plant was Strider. It is one of those Noids that I got with an incorrect name. It was supposed to be Fuego but is not.

I just thought it sort of fit the description with the long leaves and being red and all,.

I see. Well this one is really getting confusing. Howard Wills was always the go to person on identification.

Jo Ann can you take a close up of a leaf?

I don't have it anymore Patty. The one I had looked like the photo from Fernwood.

Once we can get this straightened out I need to remove the other photos from the database.

Wow I let that plant go because it did not have hairs on the outer edges of the leaves and therefore is not Strider. I have "put the word out" that Strider is missing. I would like to get the right one as i now have a grandson who's name is Strider.

Thank you for bringing it up again Chris. Let's see if we can finish it up today.
I will check back in when I get home this afternoon. I want to read back through this thread first.

Okay, I set things up with each photo showing they were acquired as 'Strider'. They will all be moved to the General Sempervivum entry.
That way we won't have the photos disappear from this thread. If I just delete them they would also be deleted from this discussion.
Now to move them.

Okay, the only photos left for the 'Strider' entry is the Erwin and Howard photos. But, according to the written description, I don't think they are correct either.

What do the rest of you think?
