I'm not sure what they are, I cant get a better picture. I did manage to drop a bowl and get water down there for them, how can I help them get out of there?? I'm not able to get down in there, I see a few have already died. Thanks for any advice, Christine

That's a lot of young frogs in your window well. Perhaps mama got stuck in there or thought it would make a good nursery. Can you maybe stick a wide board or piece of plywood that might make a ramp for them? Don't know if they'll get the idea but worth a try.

How deep is the window well? Could you reach them if you had one of those grabber tools people use to get things out of high cabinets? You'd have to be careful not to squeeze them to death, but maybe it would work.

Place a branch/board/stick so they can climb out.

The bowl that they like to jump in lift it out. If need be tie twine around the bowl so it hangs like a planter. Lower the bowl with water, slack the twine when they hop in lift it up. Good luck and may you have many wonderful blessings come your way!

What IS a window well??
Poor babies.

Window wells are built in to homes with basements, so they can get a bit of natural light into the space.

Ahh, well that explains it, it's very rare to have homes here with basements here in California.

Same here in AZ and NM. I wish basements were on every home. It's certainly nice to have the extra room and storage.

Thank you all for your thoughts, you got me thinking, I had a bundle of thin bamboo steaks that I set down there. They are all hanging around the water bowl,at least now they will stand a chance, I wonder why I hadnt seen them before this morning because I look into that window well everyday. I hope they will find their way out tonight after all the birds have gone to their nests for the night. I will let you all know in the morning if they are smart frogs and climbed out. Yes, just put a flat board like a 2x4 or a piece of old floor trim, ect and not too steep, so they can get out. They most likely fell into it. I had some old metal watering cans I decorated w a one day heard a noise in one, it was a lizard and some had already died in it. I never thought about it, but they would get in it and it was too slick for them to get back up out of and they died in there. So I filled it up w rocks, and now they look great and the critters can escape and they do not hold water, (tiny holes in the bottom) so no skeeters either... It is not just window wells, even flower pots that you have a pot in a pot, they get between them and can't escape.

That's true. We need to think about the critters that can get trapped.

I am currently raising polliwogs/tadpoles because their frog-mother laid the eggs inside a plastic watering can. I moved them to an aquarium, added aquatic plants, purchased algae (sheets of seaweed) and about 30 days later...most of them have legs and are climbing up the sticks and venturing out into the great big world.

You provided water which they need and now they have something to climb on so they will find their way out into the world.

I should add:
It was my DD who discovered the tiny poliwogs/tadpoles in the watering can. Without her observational skills the little guys would have been toast.

Agree with the plank or board idea. They will climb up on it as they id the bowl and continue to climb out. Poor little frogs!

We've had that happen here a few times. We've used a board to let them out, by morning they are all gone. Once a turtle fell in and couldn't get out. He had to be maneuvered into a small bucket and taken for a drive to a nearby river. He was seriously off course, I don't know how he got here.
