This is a really nice thread. I love where it has gone.
Possibly my love of gardening is genetic. Both sides of grandparents loved plants and both parents do too, though their interests in which plants were/ are favorites varied.
I have two teenage daughters. My oldest has the love for gardening for sure. Since she was little, she has wanted to "help" and has literally sucked in knowledge. When she began work at the greenhouse, she realized people would pass her over with questions, thinking a kid couldn't know the answer. But she does a lot of times. She's also good for telling me what new thing they brought in ( usually some unusual plant that won't overwinter) that I "need" to take home,
She was the youngest participant at the peony convention this year. Can't even count how many people wanted her to start hybridizing now. Telling her if only they had started as young as she is or how they need the young to continue the hybridizing to create new and better cultivars.
That said, she is a teenager. She likes her phone, youtubers, and her boy bands.
My second daughter has a heart of gold. With some nudging, she will help me with projects and I needed to pollinate a lily one day while I worked a really long day... She said "I can do it, if you show me exactly what to do."
She did the pollination and it took.
She works at the greenhouse too. (Hopefully the heat won't make her hate it. It's a tough job in this climate.) Of my favorite three: lilies, peonies and daylilies, she likes peonies best.
Have hope for the future and that those little things you put into their brain will create the longstanding memories that they will remember and smile while they are growing their own things.
Paul, nice pup. A day out makes all
If the difference, especially for a young pup. Glad to hear your back is being helped.
