What is the Midwest?
Up until fairly recently Minnesota persons speaking about location usually referred to the five state area: Minn., the Dakotas, Iowa and Wisc. (some times they would add Mich. due to it technically bordering Minn. up by Isle Royal and the upper peninsula is more like northern Minn. and Wisc.)

Now --- past ten years or so, depending on what org. is doing the locating they cut off the Dakotas, they cut off Iowa, they cut if off Wisc. etc.

I some times still hear north central states but that is the five-six state area although Iowa is sometimes left off.

NOW from where I am now -- MInn. the southern one-third is more like Iowa, temp. in winter generally ten to twenty degrees warmer; the northern one third is more like Alaska or Churchhill, temps. fifteen to thirty degrees colder while the mid third varies by five to ten degrees from top to bottom.

So what area does Minn. really fit in?
