Trying to clean out my yard and need to know what some of the plants are to avoid any rash 😁 1-7

My two cents:

1-some kind of Morning Glory
2-Violet/Viola
3-...not Mimosa, um...that weed that looks like Mimosa but is small...
4-Greenbriar???
5-Goldenrod
6-Pokeweed
7-Brambles/blackberries

No rashes that I can see but the Brambles will bite your ankles if you are not wearing boots.
I'd get rid of all of them except for the Goldenrod (if that's the correct ID) because my dogs like to eat the leaves.

#4 looks like a Smilax, is it thorny?
#5 looks to have leaves similar to some Milkweed I've seen.
If #3 has spores on the underside of the leaves, it could be chamber bitter.

Maybe cool your jets... I'm not so sure on the ids of some of these...

While the top one could be a weed... first glance, I thought buckwheat (Polygonum scandens).

after enlarging, it might also be matelea sp. Valuable rare native plant...


Although... there is one milkweed vine that is an invasive... This isn't the dog strangle vine... so... I'd totally wait for a bloom... Might be valuable... there are matelea collectors...

No, don't close this thread yet. We have agreed on a couple ID's and disagreed on even more.

Thanks you Stones. I do have to say on #1 I have never seen this plant bloom. Once I cut the stem it grows back super quick.

I do not like to be a plant killer 😔 Are all these invasive and any worth keeping?

I think #1 is a Bindweed, but NOT a desirable Morning Glory, they are invasive and grow rapidly, I always get rid of these right away when I find them. They can root very deep.
#2 is a wild violet, usually purple or white flowers, can be invasive but they are pretty and easy to pull out if you don't want them, they spread mostly by seed. Tolerate dry shade well, pretty adaptable to anywhere usually. Bloom only in the spring though, not throughout the summer.

#6 looks like poke weed? Not desirable if that is it.

and the last is either raspberry or blackberry vine. A wild kind probably, just your opinion on if you want it or not. Birds like them, they have thorns, white flower early spring but not remarkable, pretty fall colors on the leaves in autumn.

I do not think anything you posted will cause a rash that I am aware. You should google Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, Sumac to see what those look like in case you do run across them.

Oh yes very similar to those in the link given. Here are two more pictures of # 3. It has no spores on the underside.

Violet, and Solidago (goldenrod,) are almost certainly native. Pokeweed definitely is. All are integral parts of the local native ecosystem as food sources for various insects, butterflies (&/or their caterpillars,) and birds. IMVHO, all 3 are fine looking plants. Their value as ornamentals or to perform other functions in a garden is purely up to the gardener.

Violets make cleistogamous blooms and can't be controlled in regard to seedling avoidance by deadheading. Young seedlings are not difficult to pull but can be numerous. If one isn't going to be diligent about pulling sprouts, you'll eventually have a ground cover of violets in both flower beds and lawn. Host plant for some fritillary butterfly caterpillars.

If deadheaded, goldenrod won't drop seeds and cause a rash of sprouts. That can be a way to cultivate its' value as a nectar source for various butterflies while avoiding a weeding task for yourself later. When the yellow flowers turn brown, cut the whole top off, or cut the plant off near the soil level. 3 seconds.

Pokeweed berries are valued by several kinds of birds. If none come along to eat them before they start to fall on the ground, removing them would take just a minute or 2, by either cutting off just the berries or by taking the whole plant down with one quick slice of the main trunk near ground level. That won't kill it but there won't be more berries until the same time next year. Unwanted young seedlings are easy to pull until their 2nd or 3rd year, and boiling water poured on an older, established root will kill it if it seems too deep to dig up. I would welcome a few but the very few seedlings I've seen have had a hard time establishing. Invariably every summer at some point during the brutal heat, there's a solid month of no rain. None of the sprouts have ever survived this. When I see pokeweed plants while out in the woods, in parks, nature preserves, they are almost always lone individuals.
