My espalier apple laterals are starting to reach up to the next higher tier of branches. I want to shorten them but I don't know if this can be done as part of my summer pruning or is it a task saved for winter pruning. Any advice ?

Thank you

Welcome! to NGA

You can prune this time of year to shape. Winter is for heavy pruning.
