This popped up in my garden where some zucchini should have been?

Large leaves with short lived blooms. Spiked seed balls growing off the stalk.

A datura plant.

Datura stramonium is poisonous, so not what you want in a vegetable garden.

Never seen this plan before in Ontario. Is it common?

According to OMAFRA:
"Habitat: Jimsonweed occurs in the warmer parts of southern Ontario in cultivated fields and around farmyards."

I only recall ever seeing it once here in Eastern Ontario and it was growing at the base of a newly planted tree, so could have come with the tree from a more southern area.

And it's poisonous...So if you have kids, or animals... Jimson Weed (Datura stramonium)

Must have come with a seed pack or soil I ordered. I thought it was quite the attractive plant. Regardless, I have to get rid of it as I have both kids and pets.

As long as they don't eat it or smoke it, they will be fine.
