I used to think spring was better for planting here because a lot of marginally hardy plants are more likely to survive winter if they've had an entire growing season to root and settle in. Now I'm thinking that doesn't really apply to roses, any I plant will be hardy anyway, and the roots will be deep where they will be able to grow well into the beginning of winter. I wonder if the plants will be a bit faster to settle in without the extended time in cold storage? Less time out of the ground seems like it would benefit them.

Cindi, did you get credit from Regan's for the plants that never broke dormancy? I wonder if fall planting would have prevented that?

This is the first year that I have been to the Calgary Rose Society show and it was great. All the roses were displayed beautifully. It was interesting to see all the different categories and which roses had winner ribbons. all the roses were grown in Calgary and surrounding area.

That looks great! I love to look at photos of rose shows because I never go to any shows myself. The arrangements are so imaginative! The Ebb Tide arrangement is particularly intriguing.

I was working at the show so I didn't have an opportunity to take more photos. There were so many different varieties. I really liked Barbara Streisand.

Joanne, what a great experience! Like Neal, I would love to attend a show but I have never heard of one being held here.

Our climbing rose is liking it's new spot very well. Also discovered that bees like it's companion, the ornamental onion.

Today is International Beer Day. The Rose of the Day is Applejack:

The runner-up is Tipsy Imperial Concubine because she probably was tipsy on rice beer.

Today is National Mustard Day, so the Rose of the Day is Honey Dijon, a highly polarizing rose, which tends to be either loved or hated because of its color.

There's also Ketchup and Mustard, which could qualify as the Rose of the Day twice a year. June 5th is National Ketchup Day.

Hurray! for National Mustard Day!

Zuzu, you are right about Honey Dijon being polarizing - I fall into the group that like the colour and was so happy to finally find the rose here last fall. Planted in November '15, it has been a bit slow to take off but has so far proved to be one of the healthier new roses.

Ketchup and Mustard could also be considered polarizing. I still haven't made up my mind whether I like it or not Confused

Joanne - love the different looks of your Rugelda! Great pics Thumbs up
