Sheesh Shoe, it started raining outside just reading your story

Seriously, great story, as always and I'll never look at a 55 gallon drum again without thinking about it.

Droughts are no fun and even a bit scary. Hoping Dave and Trish and all those folks in TX are getting all the rain they need and yes, it really is raining here Ah, rain, blessed rain - LOVE it!

Yep, woke up to rain here, too. And still raining, looks like an all-dayer to me.

Wish we could pipe some of it to Texas!

Great post, Shoe. I laughed though the whole thing.

Your post got me thinking. I have plenty of drums around here, some good sassafras roots for drumsticks, and a redneck neighbor* who would love to give this a try.

* I'm talking about that big rough loudmouth, good ole Billy himself, of course.

Hah! Oh boy-howdy, I can just see Billy beatin' on those barrels!

Now next time you head to the local quick stop be sure to pick up some fireballs for this winter, too. And those sassafras roots, take the bark off for your tea before you turn them into drumsticks.

Much of Texas got rain a couple days ago. We managed to escape most of it and only got a trace amount. It'll come, eventually.

Billy must've been busy all night because today we're getting buckets and buckets of rain!! I better go check my stash and see if some barrels are missing.

Seriously, though, I'm thrilled with this rain. It's been pouring for over an hour and I bet we've had an inch by now.

I remember when we were in the midst of our drought, I was asked what I wanted for my birthday. My answer was RAIN

Hah! Too funny! Especially thinking our prized stash are barrels! We're crazy folks in the country, eh?

Congrats on the rain! I hope it comes down in more buckets for you. Hope you have rain barrels to collect some in, or is Texas one of those states that outlaw rain barrels?

Yep, I definitely have a "Stash" (just like any other farm, I suppose) and a collection of barrels is definitely part of my stash. I'd post a picture but it's the messy part of the property, as you can imagine.

Rainwater catchment is legal and encouraged in Texas. I have some catching systems here but nothing elaborate (yet). We're building a barn soon and I'll have a full catchment system on it. I have big plans in that regard.

When Hank built this house, he wanted to route all water except for sewage from toilets to a cistern type thingy but building inspection said no - made us send it all to the leech beds/septic tank.

A few years ago, a pretty famous person in your state Dave, built a home doing just that, saving all grey water to water stuff with and I thought it was so cool that Texas was progressive in their thinking.

Before we dug our pond for watering, we had a 55 gallon drum at every down spout. We would probably still do that until I found a copper head all coiled up in the water That was it - I was done!
