I am asking that as this is the third garden site I have posted on.
One big one turned out to be a political hack but even then when I was there I noticed people seem to just disappear; they are people who post often and seem informed but they just go away.
I checked back every now and then and it was always new people.

There is another Homegrown Goodness that are good people but after two years of lively replies from a large group of repeat persons, this year traffic is so slow it is like almost talking to yourself with the exception of one or two who are still around .

Why does this happen on gardening forums?
Dozens of people view a thread but say nothing.
I have been on several auto forums for decades and there are more than a handful that have been there as long or longer.

There are folks that have been posting regularly here since 2010, and continue to do so even though the name has changed.
(all things Plants changed to NGA)

Some folks post on 2 or 3 sites occasionally, but read everyday. Usually when you see a large number of views, people look at a post, if they can help, they post. If they can't be of help, they continue to watch (view) to find out what the answer may be.

The Admins here started their first gardening site back in 2000/2001 and there are folks here, posting and active that started out on the original site and have been active since 2000.

I think it depends on the site and the way it is operated that keeps members coming back year after year, as I certainly hope you will.

I have been with Dave and Trish for 7 years, I followed them from DG, to Cubits, then to ATP which is now NGA. I post often on many threads, but I also read a lot of threads that I don't post on.

I used to be on DG (roughly 10 yrs give or take) until things went belly up then I migrated over here along with a lot of other folks. Been here ever since. My posts are off and on here depending on how busy I am or whether I have anything to post but I'm always around. Smiling

I watch some posts and learn from those and many threads are full of experts..so what can I add?
The sandbox area is a chat area ..with threads dedicated ( for the most part ) to a topic or idea.

During the fall and spring I am on it less...weather permiting I am outdoors
Winter...in the house may be on it more but less focus is on gardening and more on planning and catalogue dreaming.

Waxes and Wanes with the weather and the season and the holidays etc., at least for me.

I was with Dave's Garden too and followed over to cubits and here. I see a lot of long time posters and agree with what was stated above, it depends on the site and how it's run. This is a great site and family owned and they truly care about their members.
I post on a few forums and read a lot also.

I stuck with DG even when Dave didn't- my gardening time is almost nonexistent thanx to my job, but these sites are my sanity when I need a place to go. DG shows my membership as 2008, but I began watching in 2002...lots of folks met, swapped plants and went on to become personal friends - I see a few even on FB sites like Plant id and discussion....

I was highly active in Dave's Garden, starting almost 300 threads and writing more than 3,000 posts between the beginning of 2005 and the end of 2009, but I've been much more active on ATP/NGA: almost 500 threads and almost 11,000 posts to date. I've posted a few times on GardenWeb, but I've never started any threads there.

I'm another who was very active on DG for around 10 years. I have just NOW refused to renew my subscription because I no longer like it there. In fact, most of my gardening contacts left long before I did. I stayed mostly because of the friends in the Coffee thread.

I've noticed that the real action to talk about hostas is on Facebook and the conversation on DG, here and even the Hallson forums is limited to just a few participants.

So while I check in here regularly and I've contributed a lot of hostas and hosta pictures to the database, I don't come as often as I used to.

Good nursery, but I'm in Canada; so can't easily order from them.

When it's good weather, I'm outside, so I read and post less. I've found the people on this site are much nicer and more respectful than other sites. People here, genuinely appreciate what others have to say.

I think it was 2008 when I started off on DG because that was the year I got my first computer. I believe Dave & Trish left shortly thereafter. I hung on there for a while until Cubits came into being (or I became aware of it) and I followed Dave & Trish there while still hanging around DG for a bit until ATP was alive & kicking. I let my subscription to DG expire & spend my gardening talk/reading time here. I love Dave & Trish's sites!!!!
My participation waxes & wanes with the vagaries of my life. When I have time, I am here posting or reading, when I'm slammed with other duties of life then I mostly read here to catch up but it might be 4 or 5 days without me posting.
When I was on DG, I never really ventured out of the FL forum. Here, I can be found many places.

I spent a little time on DG and then moved to cubits, then ATP and now here. I have really enjoyed the hunt for good subjects to take photos of. My family sometimes tease me about this obsession. I was at a nursery today.........check out this container

I'm good with containers but I swear I can never figure out how they manage to get them to look so fluffy!! Maybe a hair dryer and plant comb that no one knows about yet?? Rolling on the floor laughing Whistling
