Lynda - you caught a great shot of the bee !
I love my zinnia row, too. So much activity that I will drag a lawn chair between the rows to sit and quietly observe. Yesterday there were (among hundreds of other insects & birds) 4 humming birds chasing each other in aerial combat, trying to achieve control over the flowers. Ocasionally they would roost nearby and I would talk to them. Isn't this a great reason to be a gardener?

Oh, yes! I have a lot of activity outside right now. When I first went out I walked by the hummer feeder and got too close, so my female buzzed me, she is a brave little girl. The bees are very active and so are the thread waisted wasps and butterflies. One last blast before winter. Hurray!

Hello everyone,

I see a Monarch or two during the day, but they are just migrating through now and apparently we are not on a main migration route for them. Our Skippers are apparently local, and they stay busy all day.

Our weather has been freakishly warm for Fall, (climate change?) but now I think we are returning to more normal cool Fall weather, and the impending end of my outdoor zinnia season. I will grow zinnias indoors again this Winter, as part of my zinnia breeding hobby.

I tip my hat to you.

I am new to this forum, and I love zinnias! This is my first post. I want to continue to grow them, I have a raised bed garden in the backyard. This was two years ago when the monarchs came through. I love their attraction to zinnias! I live in SW South Dakota.

mommaBetty, Welcome! Your pics prove what I say about zinnias, a magnet for butterflies! Beautiful colors!
