Pony Tail Palm. In a 28 gal. tub. Bulb/base is about 16" in dia. Just about 7' tall. Weight? I do not know. I use a hand truck to move it inside and outside. I got it years ago from a grandmother who's family did not want it anymore. Best guess, over 70 years old. Gene

Wow, that's quite a huge specimen! Lovey dubby Thanks for sharing it. I was walking around the block in a small town that I was visiting, and noticed 2 huge pony tail palms on either side of the doorway. They were seriously neglected and looked barely alive. When I saw the lady of the house come out, I asked her about the age of the plants. She stated that they belonged to her late husband and that they were at least 40 years old. She apparently has not interest in caring for them, but I'd think that she'd throw some water on them every so often. Good grief. How hard can that be? Grumbling It was such a shame. Thumbs down

Very nice Gene! Thumbs up You should add some pic's to the database if you haven't done so already! Ponytail Palm (Beaucarnea recurvata)

I've seen a few Pony Tail Palms growing in the ground here in Florida and they were amazing specimens! I have two large ones that I've had for many years and the containers stay out in the yard year round. The leaves always seem to look really ratty and both are really, really root bound and need re-potting. I've been saying that I'm going to plant them in the ground and let them take off; maybe now that we've moved and don't ever plan to move again, I should think of getting them planted! I also have a small pot with numerous little ponytail's out there somewhere ... I'll have to get out with my camera later and take some pictures.
