I have no doubt that RC will rectify this, since they have excellent customer service. But my trust in them has been shaken. RC is probably the most expensive internet source of Amaryllis for the USA market. One of things that you are paying for is RC's sterling reputation. Last year, RC offered Sofia in their online catalog, but was unable to obtain the bulbs. They contacted everyone who had ordered Sofia, and offered a substitution. This is what you expect from RC. This year is more serious, since there was a accidental or intentional mislabeling in order to fill the Sofia orders. Did it happen in the RC warehouse, when the bulbs were packed?, Or did it happen at the grower's farm: Bulbs could have been substituted in order to fill the Sofia contract to RC. There is no way of knowing. Ultimately, RC is responsible for the quality and identity of their bulbs.

I wonder if they will be a bit shaken, too, to learn that this issue occurred. Let's hope it was accidental and not intentional. Good luck getting your hands on the real deal (Sofia)! Crossing Fingers!

It is my understanding that with bulbs, there are at least 6 opportunities for every bulb to get mislabeled along the way to the seller. I one person messes up along the way, the end seller would not know it until the bulb bloomed. RC has a good reputation - I assume you have contacted them? If they are reputable, they will either refund you $, or send you a new bulb. Keep us informed. I have a problem with Dutch Gardens - they will substitute a bulb without asking you. Also, they do NOT use First In, First Out with their orders. You can order early, but they will then ship a bulb to someone who ordered much later than you, leaving you stuck with a substitute bulb if your name happens to fall at the end of the alphabet. Good luck, keeping fingers crossed for you! Crossing Fingers!

My hybrids I crossed a couple of years ago (Picotee x Naranja) went briefly dormant this winter. And now they are starting to leaf out again. I am not really expecting them to bloom yet (but maybe? Crossing Fingers! ) but I am getting closer!

Christie, congratulations. Each year your new hybrid bulbs leaf out is a year closer to blooming. In reference to RC, I did contact them. I didn't ask for compensation, I just wanted to alert them to a mislabeling issue. Both emaryllis.com and myself received a mislabeled Sofia, so it probably is a whole batch of mislabeled Sofia from the supplier, not a simple packing error at RC. The owner RC thanked me for letting him know, and is investigating. Substitution is a common practice, but you at least hope that the substitution has the correct label. I always write in the special instructions or comments section of the order, "No substitution without prior authorization". I'm sure this doesn't make a difference, but it puts the company on notice. In the past, RC notified me ahead of time if they couldn't ship one of my ordered bulbs, and asked me to choose another cultivar. That's why this incident was such a surprise. I believe that RC didn't know that their Sofia was actually Picasso.

Hi All, I usually spend time in the Iris forum, but I thought I would share a couple blooms that opened for me today. I think they're 'Pasadena' and 'Vivaldi'.

Very nice @BlueFlagFan. I don't have Iris's but I like the Iris forum very much - they talk a lot about breeding and a lot of that information applies to Amaryllis also. I always learn a lot.

hello. I'm new and trying to identify this bloom. Is it San Remo? Happiness? I have several of them and they all have this precisely marked flower. It does not vary from plant to plant and I got them all via pass-along.

@legalsmith Welcome! Not San Remo. Could be Happiness - I have seen it listed with and without that red speckling at the bottom of those 3 bottom petals, so I would say Happiness. Compare to: yours is nicer though! I tip my hat to you.

@bsharf
I need some expert guidance in labeling this amaryllis. I had thought it was Amalfi and did submit several photos in that database. Now I ran across the database "Candy Floss" which looks similar and describes the details to a T. It is a very tall amaryllis, a very bright strong pink with the chartreuse center streaks. Photo below. I have current photos that I want to submit, but am sure it belongs in one of the categories. I don't want to just place it in the generic file. If someone has the details of the differences I should look for, that would also be helpful. I anxiously await your reply, and thank you.

That is a tough one to ID. To me it looks the most like Candy Floss. Both it and Amalfi are Hadeco cultivars. One could have been substituted for the other by the seller.
