I feel in love with Asilbes, so pretty! The best one ever looked was when I bought it! So I bought 2 more in different colors and planted them along my back fence in the shade. Everything I have read on them say shade. So this season my pink one got 2 puny blooms.
So yesterday I took the smallest one and dug it up and transplanted to a completely different spot in the yard that gets morning sun and see what it does next season. The others in their original spots look healthy and green, just never bloomed. I am toying with the idea of digging them up and put them in the other area that gets morning sun so maybe they actually do something next year instead of waiting yet another season of them not if I don`t move them. Has anyone here actually had Astilbes in shade, just shade, that blooms?

I have Asilbes planted behind our garage that gets all morning sun and early afternoon sun and they are doing good. I also have it planted on the north side of the house that gets some late afternoon sun. It is blooming also. I will try to get some pictures of them and post them here so that you can see them. The Asilbes on the north side are being overtaken by Hostas so I may have to move one of them.

I have them north side of house where there is not much sun,
but they still bloom.

Mine are in a lot of shade in the backyard, some sun in the front yard. Both places bloom well.If it is particularly dry they do go dormant.

Linda, Astilbes like fertilizer.Mine bloom best when composted in the fall.
Maybe yours are just settling in.

I just planted some of these this summer. They were in bloom when I planted them and didn't bloom again but I figured they wouldn't. We'll see how they do next spring. They are in basically full sun, though the bed I put them in has plants that should grow taller behind them along with a weeping pea tree that will eventually fill in the area so it won't be full sun for long.

I think I am quilty of letting them become too dry. In the fall I will give some compost, and next season remember to ot let them get so dry.

Mine also turned brown and crispy but the foliage is still good at the base (not above the base). We have our irrigation system (well water) on four times a week. Heat and sun can ruin the looks of most astilbes.

Well, they are 3 years old so I think should be established, they just need to be happy and it is my job to make them happy. We have a huge compost pile, so in the fall I will give them some, and as I mentioned before more water so they do not dry out, but not stand in a puddle either. And I will have to research when and how much and how often to fertilize.
