Today with the help of my husband a new bed for daylilies has born!

For now I didn't want to take all the space (the grass is fake grass, he made the work before I came living here and since it has been really expensive I'm feeling bad asking him throw everything away).

We need to work the soil (clay, but under the fake grass we removed there was sand soI mixed up the two) and add some more.

Here are a couple of ancient artifacts made by me with the clay Hilarious!

There's a spot in the garden I have to rearrange, digging some duplicate plant I don't want anymore, so now I have to sprout some seed to fill all this and the new bed!
Thanks for looking!

Sabrina,
I was thinking of you earlier today as our news has been broadcasting the horrific earthquake in Italy. I am so happy to see that you are well and working on your daylily beds Smiling

My heart goes out to those going through such a difficult time...tough images to see everyone's life reduced to rubble.

Those are some museum-quality relics Rolling on the floor laughing

Not to take your thread totally off topic, but...I'm really happy to see that you posted today after waking up to the terrible news of the earthquake in Italy. Very happy to see you are safe, sad to hear of all the destruction and loss of life.

That is going to be a really nice bed for you to plant more daylilies! Look forward to seeing it all planted and your new seedlings blooming Thumbs up

I agree with everyone that good news you are okay! May many blessings be bestowed on your country and those that are suffering. Angel

That is a lovely area to put daylilies! I never knew you were an archaeologist! And an artist! Good job! The one on the right should be your "flat Stanley" or " Where's Waldo" and have it pop up in your pictures! I thank God for you and your safety!

What a lovely bed! The stonework going around it is so attractive and appealing. I love your sense of humor about your clay soil. Nice clay artifacts, BTW. I think my soil is about as clayey as yours too.

Sabrina,
Your new bed looks great! You are not kidding about having clay soil! Wow, that sure looks sticky. You can start a side line business making "artifacts" Hilarious!

When I heard about the earthquake in Italy this morning, I looked up where you live on a map of Italy and see you are quite far north, so safely away from the devastation, thank goodness. I feel terrible for the people who have lost their lives, families who have lost loved ones and for the loss of those beautiful, old towns. Crying

Sabrina - So glad to hear that you are ok! Whew! I was worried, too, about you.

As for your new border area ..... looks great!!!! Glad to see you've been able to add a little more garden space for more daylilies. Looks like you have a husband that loves you very much, to do that for you! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!

I did the same as Valerie and checked Google Maps to make sure Sabrina was far enough away!

Sabrina, can you get some organic matter to add to that clay instead of more sand?

Thank you all for thinking of me, luckily we are far from the earthquake zone.
Italy is narrow and long and apart from the north there's a long chain of mountains that goes all the country long and it's quite sismic.
Since italy it's so narrow many villages and small cities are built in impervious zones, and are really old and hystorical places. You can imagine a medieval village was not built with the modern criteria. It's also difficult for helpers to get quickly there.

It's a tragedy, I'm reading 247 deaths. And another big shake this early morning.

We are in a quite safe place, north east, even if the east is at risk too.

The relics are still intact this morning Hilarious! I thought about making pottery too!

Sue, I will sure add organic matter before using the bed. I added a good amount of horse manure in an another small bed and after four months I can see the soil has already got better.
These are busy days, so I'm letting native soil upside down and make clay get dry so I can break it better before adding something else.
I'm curious about sand too, it should help a bit.

Thank for everything!

It's not worth adding sand to clay because it requires adding too much to make any improvement. Organic matter is more effective.

Since it was already there I left it and try to mix with a spade. I'll sure add organic matter!
