Thread OP

I HAVE ROUND GREEN NODULES GROWING ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE LEAVES OF MY HACKBERRY TREE. WHATEVER IT IS, IT STARTED ON ANOTHER TREE BUT I HAD THAT TREE REMOVED (FOR A REASON THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITHE THE NODULES). HOWEVER, THE NODULES HAVE NOW SPREAD TO A VERY THIS VERY OLD, VERY TALL HACKBERRY TREE. I AM WORRIED IT WILL SPREAD TO ALL OF THE TREES IN OUR BLOCK (THERE ARE LOTS) IF I DO NOT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. ALSO, IN THE FALL I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THE LEAVES TO MY COMPOST BIN BUT AM AFRAID THE NODULES WILL RUIN NEXT YEARS GARDEN. I DO NOT THINK SPRAYING IS AN OPTION WITHOUT GOING TO GREAT EXPENSE AS THE TREE IF VERY TALL.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT IT IS AND HOW TO GET RID OF IT WILL BE APPRECIATED.

Could be galls. They aren't going to hurt the tree of it is galls, but you should post a photo of the nodules.

This link shows Hackberry Gall Psyllids down south and the second link shows them up north. But the best way to be sure is for you to post a couple pictures and finish your profile. It always helps to know where the plant/tree is living and growing: a state, general area, county or country.
