this is cool Sandi, those roots look like you will have a big chance that they will develop a root on its own. Did you let the cuttings callous before re-rooting them?

Wish some of my tall lanky ones will develop roots like that :).

Boy, that would really be great, wouldn't it, Gigi. Basically, instant rooting. I would let the stem ends callous for a few days and still put rooting hormone on them. More to prevent fungi/rot than anything else. I wonder what would happen if I smeared my rooting hormone gel over some exposed stems? I feel another experiment coming.

Thanks, Gigi. I haven't cut it yet. We were out last evening. I'll be in the garden this morning because it will rain again this afternoon. I'll take photos.

@drdawg I wondered about dipping a limb into some cinnamon, then a little paraffin wax instead of waiting for it to callous.

I don't know, Sandi. I have always allowed mine to callous. I routinely use cinnamon when I cut orchid plants but have never used it, or wax, on plumeria.

Well, I'll see how sappy the cut looks. On the way out now.

You could let one callous, dip one in cinnamon, and wax one and compare the results.

A possible reason for the roots on Plumeria trunk? One long root was growing around the root ball, down, and out of the pot.

A pic of the three I potted up yesterday. The short "log" I laid on top of a pot with roots buried.

Its got to be more than that. I cannot tell you the number of large, old plumeria that are completely root-bound, not having been repotted in at least 5 years.

Guess it will remain a mystery!

I hope the ones I cut will root before it gets chilly here.

You might have to bring them inside for additional warmth if it gets below 50 F.

I keep all of the plumerias in the garage in a corner by the heater room. I bag most of 'em. The small ones stay in their pots.
