The flowers don't look like lettuce, the four petals suggest the cabbege/mustard family, Brassicaceae. No inspiration is coming to me right now, hopefully someone will recognize it. I wonder if it is a Chinese vegetable of some kind.

Yes sue your absolutely right! I just assumed that they where two different plants maybe I'm wrong! if you look closely in the blossom pic i think you can see the smaller thinner leaves of alyssum.. again i could be wrong.. probably wrong lol! I hear its often grown with veg for organic pest control..

It is similar to alyssum but if you compare close-up pictures of alyssum with the above, the alyssum petals are shorter and more rounded and the flower not as "open". Aspen implied it is all the same plant - what often happens is that the basal leaves of a plant are different from those on a flowering stem, the latter being smaller and narrower. I think that's the case here.
