@Deryll

Adding pictures here is really easy. When I get a free moment, I'll send you some instructions that you'll hopefully be able to follow! Not because you can't follow instructions, but because I'm lousy at giving instruction. Whistling Can you send photos by e-mail? It's as easy as that.

If my garden were "on fire" and I could only save 1 it would be Mamie Lake (Russell 1945) for sentimental reasons. My great-grandmother bought Mamie Lake for my granny when it came out. She shared it with my dad who shared it with me. I didn't know my GGM but I LOVE knowing I have a piece of a plant that has been in the family 70+ years.

Leslie your family's daylily Mamie Lake really is what we all would like to have in our families. Strong family connections with special memories.
Many blessings to you!
My favorite daylily of all times is Moonlit Masquerade. Growing daylilies in the extreme elements of Texas, stops most daylilies in their tracks.
Moonlit Masquerade performs like no other taking everything mother nature throws at it. Then laughs in her face with big beautiful blooms year after year. If every daylily would perform like it, I would be in heaven.
May your week be full of peace and joy!

Hi Natalie, It is late here, and just checking to see what everyone is talking about before I turn in. Don't laugh! I don't have a cell phone, and I just got the computer on black Friday. I can send an
e-mail finally, and I found the lily auction, but no, I don't know how to even put photos in here. The stupid thing won't let me spell anything, and it is always telling me that we can't find that page.
If the thing came with an instruction booklet, that would be helpful. It might even be nice just to know what all of these little symbols mean. I detest computers! The only thing good about it right
now is that I can chat with people all over the country as long as my one single finger can type.
I will have to say though that Moonlit Masquerade was one of my very first daylilies, and it really is a good one. I have always wanted to get a seedling that is as nice, but huge. I do have one
seedling from it that is just slightly larger, and more ruffled, but there is something about Moonlit that mine just doesn't have. Perhaps just it's simplistic beauty. Not complicated or gaudy.

Instead of composting your daylilies, you should sell them here! Several people have daylily sales here, and I think they do okay. I know I've spent a small fortune on them. Whistling Hilarious!

I would be PLEASED if you would just take them! Do you have any idea how much it burns me to compost a daylily that I paid 50.00 for? Quite a few were even more than that! You guys have to
understand that there are only so many hours in the day, and when you get older, it just gets harder to get everything done. I keep saying that I only want to do this until I have a collection that
I am totally proud of, and then there will be no more buying plants. I have a goal, and a destination. Perhaps if you could see me down on my hands and knees hoeing, and barely making it back
to my feet... Daylilies can be very hard work, and this is an investment with a purpose, but I think almost every grower has a compost pile for plants he no longer has a use for. For those people
who are lucky enough to have some help at home, I salute you. I do my own cooking, dishes, laundry, shopping, mowing, weeding, pruning, and I sometimes try to get some sleep when I'm not
so totally exhausted that I can sleep. I would dearly love some extra money for plants, but I simply don't have the energy. I promise you that I will post my list next year before I toss any out....
but then how do I decide who gets what? I can't handle any more stress.

I made room in a row today to plant 50 more seedlings, and moved 30 clumps yesterday. I'm just very tired.

Deryll - First - Welcome to the Daylily Forum! Welcome! Welcome!

Second - There are quite a few daylily folks here who would gladly take any plants off your hands for the cost of postage or you could even list them in the Classified here on NGA!

If you are wanting to give them away for postage, then post here on the Daylily Forum first.

I am among many here that would love to add more, but I am personally looking for miniatures and cultivars that are ev or sev showing rust resistance. But I am another one who would be more than willing to take some cultivars off your hands instead of reading about you composting them.

I agree Honestly I can't think of any member that wouldn't take some off your hands for postage. You can also trade plants on here if you are looking to replace what you are getting rid of with somethings else. chances are there won't be any 2015 or 2016 intros available but there are a bunch of members with some great varieties.

Yes, you could add me to the list of people joining the "Save the daylilies from the compost pile group". But, I realize exactly what Deryll is talking about with the limited time and energy to tend the garden. Giving away daylilies can be a lot more time consuming and involve a lot more effort than just tossing them into a compost pile. Meeting the demand for popular varieties of daylilies just for shipping could easily overload someone who is already pressed for energy and time. Then deciding just how to handle such a chore could be a daunting task also.

@Deryll

If this helps: what I have seen commonly used when folks are sharing or selling is to start a thread listing what is available and have interested folks post what they would like to have. From there, it is first to post, first to get. Rather than managing it all yourself, if you have someone you trust to start the thread for you, that person can maintain all the administrative type part like tracking and such, then you just ship from a list(s).
It’s okay to not know all the answers.

Hi guys. I just want to say THANK YOU LARRY! There are no patterns yet, but I did buy a few this year. I do have Mystic Image above, and Storm Shelter which is very similar to Blueberry Dream.

Most of the good ones from this year are already in a pile, along with a bunch of seedlings, and I have no idea what is what. Send me your names and addresses along with your zone to my
e-mail dakeatting @gmail.com and I will see what I can come up with. Just don't expect a package with 50 different varieties. I can't take orders, sorry, but I do need to make room wherever
I can so there is space for more seedlings. Getting rid of some will really help me out, and hopefully you will find a nice surprise that could possibly be a number one in your garden.

This is so awesome. In addition to giving them away there is alot of work cleaning and packing plants for shiping. This site is full of Garden Angels. Angel
