I put the SD card from my 60D in the card reader and I get a message that I need to format the card. Hmmmm...........something tells me that if I format the card, I will lose everything on it. I have not had a problem with that card before. It reads the card from my D20 just fine.

Any suggestions, other than going to Walgreens???

You must format the card often. Yes, losing anything on it. There should not be anything on it. Copy any pix you need. Cards cannot go from one camera to another. Gene

I'm used to getting a message along the lines of: This card needs to be formatted. Do you want to do that now? Yes/no. Click on no and proceed. Try putting the card in one of the slots on your computer (I.e. not using card reader.) Gene

I would think she is using a card reader because she does not have a slot in the computer to fit the card. Formatting the card will remove the photos. I format my card each time I remove it before taking any more photos. I wonder if you have any permanent memory built into your camera? It might be possible to copy to permanent memory then download the photos using a cable from the camera to the computer?

Gene is correct, I do not have a slot on my CPU for a card. I have clicked "no" to the question asking if I want to format the card, and there is no proceeding. LOL

I guess I will have to get out the book and check out how to connect the camera directly. I have not ever done that, I prefer the card reader.

If you have an external reader, unplug it from the computer, wait a couple minutes and plug it back in and see if it works. Sometimes the file structure gets corrupted and it will reset when it reloads the reader to the system.
your reader could be bad also, they go out from time to time.

Not a reader problem, it works just fine with the card from my D20.

Ok, I am assuming you can actually view the photos in your camera that are on the card, so the info is there. I think the cable is the way to go.

No problem viewing when card is in the camera. They all show up.

I do think that unplugging the card reader might be worth a shot being it is such a simple thing to do. It might not make a difference but it is possible it could.

Card in to card reader, into computer. Ignore message that comes up in your face. Open My Computer, there are drives there that normally aren't there. One is you card. Open it, there are your pix. Gene

Sorry, Gene..................that is the way I ALWAYS do it and my card doesn't show up in "My Computer" with the 60D card in it. I put the card from the D20 in and..........zip..............there it is..........right in the "my computer" section. What I cannot understand is why it won't read it now when it has every other time I have put it in the reader. "Tis a puzzlement............". :>) Oh, well..............

Cards should never be used in more than one camera. Just asking for trouble like you have now. Do you access to a different computer? Gene

Gene...............I NEVER switch cards. I am not that stupid. When I clean the card, I ALWAYS reformat............twice, as a matter of fact, as a professional photographer told me. I do not take pix using the card in the 60D, then switch it to the D20. Like I said, I am not that brainless to think I can do that.

Hopefully you have things solved by now, Anna, but if you still have problems, perhaps you could connect a USB cable to the camera and transfer the images that way? This is the way I always do it as I don't like to move memory cards if I don't have to. No, it is not resolved. I have not had the gumption to do the cable connection as the more I read, the more confused I got. LOL Most days it's a short trip anyway.
