The best control for small hive beatles is to keep your hives strong. We also use a screen bottom board with an old tray under it. You just need to dump it regularly and put fresh oil in it. You can also put a 1/4 of a swifter duster pad on top of the frames. The bees will fuzz it up trying to get it out of the hive and then the barbs on the hive beetles will get caught in it. Just be sure to bring something to put the pads in when you remove them. The beetles will still be a live and you'll need to destroy them.
